CDV – Canine Distemper in Ferrets – Advanced Stage Images

Following are additional pictures taken of ferrets in the shelter on July 3, 2011. The close-ups are of 2 ferrets both showing more advance symptoms of Canine Distemper (CDV). Note the eyes are swollen closed, the crusting around the nose and chin as well as on the footpads. The close-up of the foot-pad shows the severe welling on the legs as well. The image of the ferret in his sleep sack more clearly illustrates the redness on his feet.

Not all ferrets in the shelter have shown symptoms of CDV as shown in the last three images. FACT houses ferrets communally. We did not separate the ferrets showing symptoms from those who were not as they already had been living communally for over 2 weeks before the onset of symptoms in the first ferret.
