All great deeds and all great thoughts have a ridiculous beginning. Great works are often born on a street corner or in a restaurant’s revolving door. – Albert Camus
About Us
The Ferret Association of Connecticut, Inc. (FACT) was established in 1991 to offer general care and health information about pet domestic ferrets at a time when little factual data was available about them. We quickly realized New England also desperately needed a species-specific ferret rescue because mainstream shelters were not supporting ferret adoptions. From those humble origins, FACT became one of the most respected ferret organizations in the United States.
FACT is a 501(c) 3 tax exempt organization under the US Internal Revenue Code. All donations are gratefully acknowledged and may be tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
Mission
Simply put, our mission reflects FACT’s core values.
Policy Statement
The policies and practices of our organization evolved over the years but consistently put ferrets and their welfare first.
People
FACT is proud of the people who serve on our Board of Directors and on our Advisory Board, as well as our Executive Director. Each has a commitment to ferrets and to integrity in all our public and private affairs. All work tirelessly to ensure that donor funds are utilized wisely while ensuring the welfare of the ferrets entrusted to our care.
History
As one of the oldest continually operating ferret shelters in the United States, FACT has a long history of serving ferrets and owners.
Financial Reports
The Ferret Association of Connecticut is, to our knowledge, the ONLY ferret shelter in the United States that files a full Internal Revenue Service 990 tax return. This allows us to be eligible for the Combined Federal Campaign for payroll-deduct donations from postal and government employees. Most recently, our commitment to disclosure has obtained the Gold Participation Level on the Guidestar Exchange.
Our financial reports now include an Annual Report that is produced for our substantial donors and grant organizations.
Shelter Statistics
Since our early years FACT has kept shelter statistics. Our Board has always believed this information to be crucial to our supporters as well as to the proper management of operations.
