Mira

Certain souls cross our path leaving such an impression that it takes your breath away. Mira did this for the Ferret Association of Connecticut. Arriving 6 years after our founding, she brought renewed inspiration to many and showed the world just what one tiny little ferret can overcome.

FACT shares her story here and continues to celebrate her memory through the Mira Health Care Fund.

Mira was just 15 weeks old …….

She had bleach spilled over her which was not washed off, causing severe chemical burns to develop. Mira was then stepped on, entirely dislocating her shoulder-blade. With no funds to care for her, the young owner called FACT. When we went to get her, she was barely responsive. We called our vet who kept his clinic open to begin treatment to stabilize her. We raced 40 miles to his office praying she would hold on. That evening was touch and go.

For a week she needed to eat every three hours. Bandages were changed daily. Mira required special monitoring to guard against secondary infection. No one ever thought she would hop or run. Certainly she would never walk normally. Her story is one of perseverance, hope and gratitude to all the people who helped a special little girl heal.

Mira Press Release –  August, 1997 – Mira Arrives at FACT and a call goes out to get help for her medical care.

March 15, 1998 to February, 1999 – Additional updates on Mira’s progress over the next 14 months.

February 2002 – December 2002 – Mira faces an entirely new challenge. Lesions develop and she begins treatment for sarcoma.
