Programs

The Ferret Association of Connecticut has a number of local, regional, national and international focused programs. We started early on, with our Foster Care Program – many of the foster “grandparents” supporting our senior and special needs ferrets are from such far-flung places as Turkey, Japan, Singapore and various European countries.

More recently FACT’s initiatives to develop the Ferret Shelters Directory and Ferret Canine Distemper Fund show that ferret welfare and cooperation is global.

International Programs

Foster Program Overview

FACT’s Foster Program is one of our most significant achievements. On average, FACT places and maintains 25 to 30 ferrets a year in experienced, caring homes where they receive permanent one on one attention. This allows us to avoid “warehousing” special needs and medically challenged ferrets and gives each of them the attention they deserve. For the ill and elderly, the benefits are enormous.

FACT’s foster program was one of the first of its kind in the ferret sheltering community. Even today it is considered one of the most robust and professionally operated foster programs. In addition to the careful selection of foster families, FACT maintains a special Foster Contribution Program that supports these ferrets and publishes a separate bi-monthly newsletter to these kind donors that provides updates from the foster families to their supporters.

We support these ferrets through a special Foster Contribution Program.

So while the foster ferrets themselves are “local,” their supporters are located around the world.

Ferret Shelters Directory

The Ferret Shelters Directory is a one-of-a-kind ferret shelters listing launched in 2013. A joint collaboration, it replaced the Support Our Shelters ferret shelter list. The Directory is a major innovation in the way information about shelters is presented and made available to the public.  Visit the Directory and see what we mean. This describes FACT’s developmental and ongoing involvement in the effort to launch and manage this innovative project on behalf of the ferret community.
