FACT’s Foster Program

The FACT dedicated rescue is one of the longest running ferret shelters in the United States. Since 1991, we have taken in and cared for over 1,600 domestic pet ferrets that have lost their homes through no fault of their own.

Many of the ferrets that arrive at FACT are in good health and adoptable. However, a significant number are ill or elderly and face large medical bills. Realistically, it is almost impossible to find an adopter for these animals. Our solution has been to place them in permanent foster homes and pay the cost of their veterinary care. We will NOT PUT AN ANIMAL TO SLEEP unless it is medically necessary.

How FACT’s Foster Program Keeps Ferrets In Homes

We need your help to continue this work. We receive no federal or state grants and are completely dependent upon charitable contributions.

Any donation you make to FACT helps us care for the fostered ferrets and those who await homes in the shelter. But what is of the most help for our senior and special needs ferrets who enter permanent foster care is your participation in FACT’s Foster Program. Under this plan, you sponsor a ferret that is in the Foster Program by making a $5.00 monthly donation for each ferret you select.

Sponsor a Ferret in the Foster Program – Enroll Here

You can start the enrollment process by completing and submitting the form below.

The program is very flexible. You can choose to:

  • Sponsor 1 or more ferrets a month;
  • Enroll and pay on a month to month; quarterly; bi-annual or annual basis;
  • Pay by check/money order through the mail; pay by credit card by mail or online; or use PayPal for your contributions.

Our only limitation is that, due to set per transaction fees, PayPal or credit card payments are most cost-effective when payments are $10 or more. So for 1 ferret sponsorships we ask that you use our monthly coupon-by mail check/money order payment option or, alternatively, donate quarterly. This chart summarizes the options.

Foster Program Payment Examples

Upon receipt of your first payment, we send you a list of eligible ferrets. Select your ferret (or ferrets) from the list. If you can’t decide let us know and we’ll pick someone for you. You receive a small, framed photo of each foster “grandchild” sponsored, yours to keep as a permanent reminder of your generosity.

You are, of course, under no obligation to continue. Your pledge is not binding; we normally send only one reminder note if you have not contributed recently.  As long as you continue your contributions, you receive a subscription to Ferret Poop, the bi-monthly FACT Foster newsletter. This donor newsletter gives updates about all the ferrets in the foster program. It is written by the Foster families with additional news contributed by the Executive Director.

If you choose to pay by check or money order, your first packet includes a coupon book to make your future payments. If you have already paid by credit card or PayPal, your packet will be on its way quickly. When you choose to pre-pay for an extended period, FACT saves administrative and PayPal’s credit card processing fees.

Won’t you help give one of these gentle survivors the care they deserve for what time they may have left? To sign up, just complete the form below and we will get you started!

All contributions to the FACT Foster program are tax-deductible as allowed by law. At the end of each calendar year, a donation receipt for all the gifts made during that year is mailed to donors.
